Vail uses a couple Xotic XJ series 5 string basses
For the Keb’ Mo’ tour, Vail is using his Kubicki X-Factor, Xotic XJ-1 and Kramer 450B Fretless.
Trace Eliott GP11 Pre Amp, Crest Power and a Mesa 2×15″ cabinet loaded with EVM 15BX’s from around 1980(!)

The Kenny G set- up is a GK 2001RB head and two 4×12 Neo cabs
Sennheiser wireless, Mackie mixer round out the concert rig.
In the studio, Focusrite is his software of choice for tracking and mixing.
Mick Donner custom made a couple electric uprights and Vail uses them live and in the studio.
Phil Kubicki X- Factor basses have been a mainstay for more than 20 years and they are still in use, especially live and for solo work.
